Who this guide is for
For the owner of an air conditioning or refrigeration business who may sell in the next few years, and for anyone thinking of buying one. It gives the rules for Great Britain only and sets out each question from both sides.
What you will take from it
- The HFC quota in Great Britain falls from 31% to 24% of the baseline on 1 January 2027. It limits new gas placed on the market and bans no unit already in use.
- In Great Britain the refill ban covers virgin gas with a GWP of 2,500 or more in refrigeration systems holding 40 tonnes of CO2 equivalent or more. R410A is 2,088 and R32 is 675.
- We found no public figure for what the phase-down does to the price of a business or of any gas, so the guide works from the plant list, the records and who pays for replacement.
What is inside
- Is the phase-down a threat to your value?
- A quota on supply, not a ban on plant
- The installed base, gas by gas
- What can still be topped up
- Leak checks and the records behind them
- The replacement plan and who pays
- Questions for your wholesaler
- The tickets the work depends on
- Firms like this do change hands
